Syncing Up with Your Biological Clock: Understanding the Importance of Sleep-Wake Rhythm

Sleep-wake rhythm, also known as the circadian rhythm, is the natural 24-hour cycle that regulates the sleep and wake cycles of most living organisms. It is controlled by an internal "biological clock" located in the brain that helps to synchronize the body's functions with the time of day.

The sleep-wake rhythm plays an important role in regulating many physiological processes, including hormone production, metabolism, and immune function. Disruptions to the sleep-wake rhythm, such as those caused by shift work, travel across time zones, or sleep disorders, can have negative effects on health and well-being.

Maintaining a regular sleep schedule and exposure to natural light are important for keeping the sleep-wake rhythm in sync.
